Manual therapy & muscle energy techniques

Dr Barbara Hungerford has been a  musculoskeletal physiotherapist for over 30 years, and has been teaching physiotherapists about manual therapy and Muscle Energy Techniques since 1995.

All the physiotherapists at Sydney Spine and Pelvis Centre are trained in a variety of manual therapy techniques such as muscle energy, myo-fascial releases, neural glides, SINGS, cranio-sacral therapy, dry needling and tender point releases.

Muscle Energy technique is a gentle form of manual therapy that combines specific positioning of the affected joint toward its restriction with a gentle active muscle contraction of muscles that are restricting joint motion, in order to release compression of the joint and allow freer movement. In general it does not involve manipulation, and is considered to be gentle on the joints and muscles.
